- Do a professional title check and buy title insurance on major purchases
- Have a professional "buyers appraisal" performed on the prospective property
- Avoid financing through Costa Rican banks which charge much higher interest rates than North American sources. In addition it is more difficult to qualify.
- Form a corporation and buy property through that corporation. This provides more legal protection and less costs in selling or transferring property in the future
